VISUAL DESIGN PROJECTS
University 1st Year Visual Design module

While studying Media and Communications at Birmingham City University, I chose to take the Visual Design module in my 1st year. Each week we would cover a new aspect of visual design, complete a research task and a design task related to that aspect and post them on a blog. The areas covered include typography and business cards, shape, colour and logos, photography, image and album covers, legally sourcing images, grid and composition, magazine production (using existing images and articles provided to the class), multimedia designs for the magazine, and marketing designs for the magazine. Throughout the module, I greatly expanded my skills in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as technical knowledge regarding printing and digital images. A Level Project - Magazine Article

My 2nd year Media Studies A-Level coursework included a critical investigation into a media issue of our choice, and then two practical pieces relating to this investigation. I produced a moving image advert for a TV documentary and this, a double page specialist magazine article on the topic. The article was produced completely independently - writing the article myself as well as designing and producing using various Adobe features. The accompanying TV documentary advert is available in the Moving Image section of my portfolio, and Critical Investigation essay 'Is Citizen Journalism the Future of Journalism?' available in the Other/Theory section.
A Level Project - Artist Promotion: Magazine Article, Tour Poster and Album and Tour Advert

In my first year of A-LEvel Media Studies I produced a series of promotional material for a fictional artist. This included a double page magazine article, an A3 tour poster and an A3 album and tour advert, as well as a promotional video. All material I produced in this project followed the same theme, i order to create the artist identity and message I wanted. The Print material was created using a mixture of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. The accompanying promotional video can be found in the Moving Image section of my portfolio.

GCSE Coursework - Magazine front page

As part of my GCSE Media Studies coursework, I produced a front cover for a fictional specialist music magazine. Photographic images are not my own, but the page was designed and produced by me, using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
